Charles Krug Winery Founded in 1861 by Charles Krug, the 27-year old Prussian immigrant came to America with little besides willpower and a willingness to work hard to build the cornerstone of the first winery in the Napa Valley. He became the major local winery figure of his era, greatly influencing Napa Valley's development as a world-renown wine producing region. Now Charles Krug, Napa Valley's first winery has been owned and operated by the Peter Mondavi, Sr. Family for four generations. Family tradition is the foundation of our winemaking and grape growing on our Napa Valley family vineyards.
Today the family continues its stewardship of 850 acres of estate land with organic and sustainable farming practices and state-of-the art winemaking techniques.Charles Krug Winery has 800 acres (324 hectares) of prime vineyards spread out across several Napa Valley appellations and produces more than ten varieties of wine. A registered historical landmark, the facility includes the original wine cellar and contains one of the valley's largest collections of rare and aged vintages of Cabernet Sauvignon.
