El Camino Real International Heritage Center is one of New Mexico's State Monuments, operated by the Department of Cultural Affairs. State Monuments make available to the public some of New Mexico's historic and culturally significant sites. El Camino Real was established in 1598 and brought thousands of Spanish and Mexican colonists into New Mexico until the 1880s. The rich, unique culture, heritage and families of New Mexico is a result of the famous trail, running from Vera Cruz, Mexico to north of Santa Fe.

El Camino Real International Heritage Center Foundation is the Friends Group to the Camino Real. Our volunteers operate the Gift Shop and Book Store at the Center, sponsor special events throughout the year, support the Center with educational programs, and preserve the history of the trail.
