In my opinion this is the best zoo in the country. I have lived in San Diego for more than a decade and I think the Omaha zoo is much better. Having worked there for close to a decade as a teenager, the zoo has gone though some excellent expansions. The most current project, an Asian exhibit looks great. The zoo has a great mix between indoor and outdoor exhibits to enjoy all year long. There is a new play area for little kids and the north entrance is open again. The memberships are still very reasonable for a family and admission for individuals is fair for the offerings. The food offering are good, but somewhat pricey. There are plenty of rides to get around the park, but walking is always the best. My opinion is slightly biased, but this is definitely a place to go if you visit Omaha.
An amazing variety of animals both common and uncommon. Many of the exhibits are impressive in their scope and detail when attempting to emulate the natural habitats. Those that are less impressive seem to be next in line for an upgrade. The aquarium section was awesome, with many fishes I haven't even seen at larger aquariums. The zoo is also well-organized, easy to get from exhibit to exhibit without having to constantly backtrack. Wish I could have stayed longer.
This really is the best Zoo in the United States period. It was snowing the day we went and we were not expecting to see very much! Pleasantly surprised with all of the indoor exhibits. We could also see that they were improving even more as construction was going on but it didn't bug us at all. We were more excited to see what is going to open in the future. This picture I took looks like a wallpaper professionally taken!
One of the best zoos in the world and very much worth a trip. The new exhibits are very well done. It's very cool to see the giraffes, elephants, and so many more up close. The zoo can be a long walk, but the trams are an affordable way to get around. The food is a little off the pricey side of course, but there's a good variety. Lots a bathrooms as well and all very clean.
Have been visiting here since childhood, has had some very big improvements recently. Bigger exhibits to give the animals more freedom to roam. Great place to spend a day or two. Most of the buildings have air conditioning or seem to be cooler. Very fair price for what you're getting. Lots of walking unless you buy the tram pass. Delicious pretzels. Good prices for drinks.
