About 3 years ago I applied to work here. I applied for the position of animal attendant. I was hoping I would be spending all day just cleaning out animal pens, I've been around all sorts of animals my whole life, so that type of work doesn't bother me. However, this was not the case, you spend most of your time being a cashier there, or operating the pony wheel. If I wanted to be a cashier or a ride operator I would have signed up for that.
If you work inside the barn, they only give you 30 minutes to take care of all those animals before you have to stop what you are doing and be a cashier now collecting money and passing out feed cups and other items. There is only enough time to do spot cleaning (These cages need full cleaning, not spot cleaning).
Many of the animals are off limits to the workers, like the reptiles, the foxes, the bobcat, and the porcupine, the macaws. Why can't we work with those animals? Why can't we help out in the animal show?
The ponies also looked tired and they only get about 20 minute break every two hours. I was working one day when it was 98 degrees outside, I couldn't even stand the heat, imagine how the ponies felt.
The workers operating the pony wheel are usually out there for 7 hours, and on a hot day you don't get much breaks, you can bring water bottle with you but they usually end up falling on the ground or getting accidently misplaced with someone else water bottle.
